Palestinian Family from Syria in Lebanon Appeals for Son’s Treatment

The family of the Palestinian child from Syria Mohamed Mahmoud Karboun appealed, in letters emailed to AGPS, to the international Red Cross, UNRWA, and the Lebanese Health Minister, among other concerned parties, to urgently step in so as to save the life of their premature baby, held in Bekaa Hospital. The newborn’s health has taken a turn for the worse as his lungs have not been fully developed.

According to the family, UNRWA covered hospitalization fees for three days only. The agency failed to cover mechanical ventilation fees.

The family added that they have been told by medics that their son needs at least a 40-day therapy at an estimated cost of $80 per every single day.

Medical check-ups said the child has not fully developed lungs and has a preterm birth weight and needs regular follow-up and treatment at an intensive care unit.

Palestinian and Syrian refugees in Lebanon have been grappling with poor health services along with the lack of relief assistance by local and international humanitarian bodies.
