Displaced Palestinian Families in Idlib Appeal for Urgent Assistance by UNRWA

Palestinian refugees who have been displaced from Damascus and its suburbs to the northern Syrian province of Idlib appealed to UNRWA to take urgent action as regards their tragic state of affairs.

The rally-goers urged UNRWA to provide civilians with relief and medical assistance and to work on securing children’s access to school.

Speaking during the rally, a Palestinian refugee sounded distress signals over the high rental fees, along with the chronic power and water blackouts rocking the area.

Nearly 60 families taking cover in Idlib fled the city center and have sought shelter in its outskirts in the hunt for cheaper rental fees.

The damage inflicted on infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and civilian facilities, has made life unbearable in the area.

During the last quarter of 2016, some 250 Palestinian families had been displaced from their shelters in Khan AlSheih Camp to Idlib, following a reconciliation accord struck between the Syrian government and the opposition outfits. Thousands of others had been deported from the Palestinian refugee camps of Yarmouk, AlSbeina, AlHusseiniya, and Handarat.
