Statistics-Based Facts on Situation of Palestinians from Syria

Thousands of Palestinian families have gone homeless as their refugee camps and shelters have been reduced to mounds of rubble in the unabated Syrian warfare.

Amid bloodshed and destruction, Palestine refugees remain particularly vulnerable and have been disproportionately affected by the conflict, due to their proximity to conflict areas inside Syria.

According to UNRWA, out of the 12 Palestine refugee camps throughout the country, five are either destroyed or inaccessible to the agency. 438,000 Palestinians, out of 560,000 registered with UNRWA prior to the conflict, have remained in the country.

Approximately 254,000 were displaced at least once within Syria while 28,900 are trapped in besieged and hard-to-reach areas like in Yarmouk Camp and Daraa province.

Over 120,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria have also fled the country, including around 31,000 to Lebanon and 16,000 to Jordan, where they have been subjected to a tenuous legal status.

90% of Palestinian refugee families in Gileen have sought shelter elsewhere as a result of the bloody strife rocking the area.

As of February, 200 displaced Palestinian families from Jumla, AlShajara, Koya, and T’seil villages were deported to AlMzeirib and Gileen.

At the same time, 2,000 Palestinians taking refuge in Khan AlSheih Camp, in Rif Dimashq, were deported to the northern Syrian city of Idlib, controlled by the opposition outfits, following an agreement with the Syrian government.
