Palestinian Refugee Iyad Hamdan on Verge of Leg Amputation as Syrian Gov’t Denies Him Urgent Medical Referral

Reporting from southern Damascus, AGPS news correspondent said the health status of the Palestinian refugee Iyad Hamdan has sharply deteriorated as his appeals for urgent medical referral to Damascus hospitals have gone unheeded by the Syrian government.

40-year-old Hamdan, diagnosed with clogged foot artilleries, said medics asked him to show up in the hospital every five days for urgent medical checks following a medical surgery he had undergone sometime earlier. Hamdan could only see the doctor once as his appeals for urgent therapy have gone unheard.

AGPS reporter said Hamdan got his third finger cut, warning that he is very likely to get his entire foot amputated if serious steps are not immediately made to save him.

Activists slammed the Syrian government for its apathy as regards Hamdan’s case, among hundreds of other Palestinian refugees, urging the concerned authorities to immediately step in and save Hamdan’s life before it is too late.

Palestinians stranded in Yarmouk Camp, among other southern Damascus zones, have rarely been allowed access out of the area to fetch much-needed items or receive medical treatment outside the besieged region.
