UNRWA to Palestinian-Syrian teachers in Lebanon: Return, resign or work without payment

UNRWA’s presidency in Damascus has demanded that the Palestinian teachers who left Syria and went to Lebanon fearing their lives after the outbreak of war in Syria, to return. It allowed them until the end of the year to enroll in Syrian schools, giving them the choices of returning to Syria, working without payment or resigning.

The teachers, especially the youth, refused the decision which could lead to their arrest by the Syrian regime forces. They demanded the UNRWA to retract the decision for now, with hope that the security situation in Syria may stabilize and allow for their return to the camps and homes they left fearing their families’ lives. On the other hand, legally protecting them from abuse or detention was also among the demands.
