Huge challenges facing Palestinian-Syrian refugees in Brazil

In Brazil, dozens of Palestinian-Syrian refugees fled to it to escape the poor security and legal conditions in Syria’s neighboring countries, staying in several Brazilian cities including Sao Paulo.

They are facing many economic and living crises, including the failure of the Brazilian government to provide any benefits, relief assistance and financial aid to the refugees such as travel, accommodation, work, job training and language classes. Instead, they have given them a temporary residence card for two years. The refugees are complaining of the difficulties they find in blending with the Brazilian society due to ­the differences in customs and traditions, as well as expensive housing with no suitable income.

The number of Palestinian-Syrian refugees in Brazil has not been accurately documented, despite there being a Palestinian embassy and the General Federation of Palestinian Institutions, pointing out that the National Committee for Refugee Assistance.
