Immigrants from Syria protest in front of the German embassy in Athens

Dozens of immigrants, including Palestinians and Syrians, organized a protest on 8-11-2017 in front of the German embassy in the Greek capital Athens, against what they considered a rejection by the German authorities to grant them the permission to meet with their families in Germany,

During the protest, which took place on the streets of Athens, the protestors demanded joining their families in Germany. The immigrants have been in Greece for more than a year and they received the permission to reunite, however their travel permits have not yet been issued by the German government.

A number of humanitarian organizations accused Germany of disobeying the terms of the Dublin Convention, which states that the “reuniting” refugees must not stay in Greece for more than six months

The number of Palestinian-Syrian refugees stranded in Greece are estimated to be 400 refugees, most of which are located on the islands of “Lisbos, Mytelline, Chios, Leros and Kos,” including families, women, children and elderly people. They are distributed among the refugee camps or in large halls. Most of the refugees originally came from Yarmouk, Deraa, Al-Aedin and Al-Hussaineyya camps in Syria.
