Human Rights Committee in European Parliament accuses German authorities of obstructing the reunion of refugee families

The Human Rights Committee in the European Parliament criticized the German policy followed regarding the reuniting of the refugee families. Barbara Lochbeller, Deputy Head of the Human Rights Committee in the European Parliament, said that the German authorities are obstructing the reunions of the refugee families.

The criticism comes while thousands of refugees are waiting to be reunited with their families in Germany, especially in Greece. They have protested several times in front of the German embassy in Athens to demand the rapid finishing of their immigration procedures.

Lochbeller also criticized most of the EU countries for the prevention, without fairly distributing the refugees across the participating countries. The Greek leftist newspaper Avimrida Ton Cintacton previously revealed a Greek-German agreement to slow down the process of reuniting the refugee families that were separated in both countries while trying to find a safe shelter.

Hundreds of Palestinian and Syrian refugees in Greece are facing a severe suffering and extended periods of waiting for a decision regarding their case. Dozens of them are waiting to be reunited with their families in Germany.
