In Lebanon, dozens of displaced Palestinian-Syrian refugees organized a sit-in, to protest against UNRWA’s delay in providing winter aid to the Palestinian families and to express their rejection of its austerity policy on the medical, relief and educational levels.
Beddawi and Ain Al-Hilweh refugee camps in Lebanon, witnessed protests and sit-ins on Tuesday in front of UNRWA’s headquarters, in response to a call made by the Displacement Fund Committee and the Committee for the follow-up of displaced persons, to protest against UNRWA’s policy and its impasse in the distribution of winter aid.
The protesters also demanded the raise of the value of the accommodation and food allowance provided by UNRWA to the Palestinian refugees, as well as paying for the winter aid urgently, in order to help the families face winter. They also asked UNRWA to increase the value of hospital coverage and to stop delaying surgical and medical procedures under the pretext of sending the patient's papers to Syria and waiting for its approval.
On their part, the approximately 31 thousand Palestinian-Syrians in Lebanon, according to UNRWA’s statistics in December 2016, are complaining of their miserable living conditions at all levels, including the life, economical and social levels, due to the widespread of unemployment among them and the lack of financial resources, in addition to the relief institutions and charities that are not providing assistance to them.
