The Government of the Republic of Korea donated 500 thousand American dollars to UNRWA, to help guarantee the continuation of the Agency's educational and health services for the Palestinian refugees from Syria, in Jordan.
The Agency said that the joint agreement occurred with the Korean Ambassador to Jordan, Lee Bum-young and the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Pierre Krähenbühl, on the 15th of November, in Amman.
The Agency added that the contribution is to support UNRWA in guaranteeing the Palestinian refugees, who were displaced because of the conflict in Syria and are currently in Jordan, the freedom to go to schools, health centers, professional training centers for the youth, safe and children friendly, and taking into consideration the gender.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan, Lee Bum-young said: “When I visited UNRWA’s professional training center in Amman last year, I learnt that 17000 of the Palestinian refugees in Syria are prevented from the support given to the Syrian refugees, only because they are Palestinians, regardless of the fact that they are refugees because of the Syrian crisis. Today, I am glad to be offering those people the support they need through UNRWA.”
UNRWA previously announced that it has an increased demand for services, since the registered number of Palestinian refugees increased, the degree of vulnerability of the situation they live in and their worsening poverty.
