The Deputy Director General of UNRWA in the near east, Lex Takkenberg, visited the Handarat refugee camp on Monday 11-12.
During his visit with Michael Amania and Mervat Abu Rashid, the agency’s Director in Aleppo, observed the scale of the destruction suffered by the camp, as well as visiting a number of families who had lately returned to their destroyed houses, after giving up in finding a shelter, and especially after being forced to evacuate the ninth unit of the university housing in Aleppo, and after losing hope for the intervention of UNRWA and the concerned parties to rehabilitate it.
On their part, a number of activists and residents of the Handarat camp, called on UNRWA to rebuild and return them to their homes, which they were forced to leave.
