Dozens of Palestinian-Syrian refugees get Swedish and Dutch citizenships

Last year has seen an increase in the number of Palestinian-Syrian refugees who have received the Swedish and Dutch citizenships, after meeting the legal conditions for obtaining them.

According to the Dutch law, Palestinian-Syrians are allowed the right to apply for the citizenship, after 3 years of their presence in the country, in addition to achieving a certain level of fluency in the Dutch language.

A Palestinian-Syrian refugee who has spent four years in Sweden, is allowed the right to apply for the nationality. Sweden has not yet imposed any other conditions for obtaining its nationality. Palestinian-Syrian children born in Sweden are automatically given the citizenship, under the condition that one of their parents have permanent residence in Sweden.

In general, the Netherlands and Sweden whose laws help refugees to acquire their nationalities, while Germany and Denmark are more stringent.

At least 85 thousand Palestinian refugees have arrived in Europe in recent years, in escape of the horror of the Syrian war, which has hit most of the Palestinian camps there, in addition to the ill-treatment of the Palestinian-Syrian by the neighboring countries, and not allowing them to enter their territories.
