Thousands of Syrian Palestinian refugees have been forced to leave Syria are having great difficulties in renewing their Syrian travel documents, due to the high costs of renewals and the difficulty of the procedures.
The Palestinian-Syrians are being treated as Syrians regarding the procedures for the renewal or granting of travel documents. Renewing the travel documents costs about 300 American dollars with a waiting period, or 800 American dollars if it is to be renewed within three days. Usually the travel document is renewed for only two years.
While refugees find great difficulties in communicating with consulates and Syrian embassies because of overcrowding on the one hand and the spread of the "appointment brokers" phenomenon, through close associates of the embassy or consulate staff working on the sale of appointments for money sometimes amounting to $300.
It is worth mentioning that the valid travel document is a prerequisite for the Palestinian-Syrian refugees to stay in most of the countries where they have taken refuge.
