UNRWA announces the date of individual data checks for Palestinians in Syria

UNRWA announced that in coordination with the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees, that it will conduct an audit on the inpidual data of the Palestinian refugees benefiting from the cash assistance and living in Syria, during the first cycle of food assistance distribution for 2018.

UNRWA clarified in its statement, that the goal for this procedure is to update the residency data and the current addresses of the Palestinian families, in order to facilitate their access to the financial and food assistance from the closest point to their current residence, noting that it will start to implement its procedures starting from the 5th of March to the 21st of May 2018.

Regarding the papers required to update the data of their current residence, UNRWA stated that it requires the original copies of the following papers to be provided by the Palestinian refugees: the original home ownership contract, the original lease contract, government issued identification card, valid hosting minutes, security approval for housing, a recent residency support and a recent telephone bill on behalf of the holder.

UNRWA stressed that in the event that the original version of the documents could not be submitted, a telephone bill, electricity bill or a new water bill must be brought in the name of the holder.

According to UNRWA, the Palestinian families that receive relief assistance will be required to bring their personal ID and UNRWA’s ID, noting that it will not provide the food basket if the required papers are not completed. It will also inform those families of the date and distribution center by text message on their mobile phones.

According to UNRWA statistics, of the 560,000 Palestinian refugees living in Syria before the war, about 450,000 refugees remain inside it, of which more that 95% are in desperate need of the humanitarian aid in order to stay alive. About 43,000 of them are trapped in confined areas that are difficult to reach.

UNRWA confirmed that more than 120,000 Palestinian refugees from Syria had fled the country, including more than 30,000 Palestinians who immigrated from Syria to Lebanon, as well as 17,000 Palestinians who headed to Jordan, where they are facing a worrying and marginalized presence.
