Palestinian-Syrian committees in Lebanon investigate the suffering of the refugees with UNRWA

In Lebanon, a delegation from the Committees of Palestinians displaced from Syria in Lebanon, met the day before yesterday, with the Director General of UNRWA, Claudio Cordone, in his office in beirut, to discuss the recommendations that were issued during the workshop carried out on 5th of March 2018, under the title, “The Suffering of the Palestinian-Syrians Between UNRWA and the Legal Status… Reality… Difficulties… Hopes,” in the headquarters of the municipality of Sidon in south Lebanon.

The delegation presented the suffering of the displaced Palestinian-Syrians in Lebanon and discussed the exemption of the Palestinian-Syrian students from school fees, in addition to employing the displaced Palestinians in UNRWA.

The delegation said that the Director General expressed his understanding of the conditions of the Palestinians displaced from Syria, and stated that the money available with UNRWA is enough to cover until the end of April, stressing that the cases of the displaced is their priority and that the cash assistance is the priority of priorities.

The number of Palestinian-Syrians in Lebanon is estimated, according to UNRWA’s statistics until the end of December 2016, at 31 thousand refugees, distributed across 5 areas in camps and gatherings in the Lebanese cities. 50.64% of the families are distributed in the camps and the remaining 49.36% are outside the camps.
