Victims and large-scale destruction after the hysterical bombardment of Yarmouk camp

The Syrian and Russian aircrafts launched heavy air raids of Yarmouk camp during the early hours, targeting a number of neighborhoods in the camp and Al-Hajar Al-Aswad and Al-Tadamon neighborhoods, as well as Al-Assaly and Al-Qadam.

Our correspondent said that at 7:20am on Friday, the regime forces and the pro-government factions began a large attack from different axes, in an attempt to storm the camp.

They used rockets and mortars to target Al-Maghraba Street, the vicinity of the Cultural Center, Al-Orouba street, the Schools Street, Street 30 and Street 15. This coincided with violent and intermittent fighting in which light and medium weapons were used.

According to activists in the neighboring towns, the number of airstrikes launched by the Russian and Syrian planes on the neighborhoods of Al-Tadamon, Yarmouk camp, Al-Hajar Al-Aswad and Al-Qadam, were 215 strikes since yesterday afternoon and to this moment.

The bombardment reached Palestine Hospital, which belongs to the Palestinian Red Crescent, where it was directly targeted. As a result, Palestinian refugee “Gamal Sameeh Hmeed,” Abu Khaled, died while he was ambulating the injured. The hospital also went out of service. The Action Group monitored dozens of violations performed by the Syrian regime against hundreds of Palestinian refugees, who either died or got injured or arrested, among medical personnel and paramedics.

In the areas controlled by Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, the regime forces shelled residential neighborhoods with rockets and mortars. According to the sources of Tahrir Al-Sham, the Syrian forces tried to storm the area but failed. They also confirmed that Tahrir Al-Sham’s fighters surrounded a group of fighters and killed 10 of them, while trying to break into the concentration points of Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham in the region of Reija.

Violent clashes are taking place in a new attempt to break in to the area, where heavy weapons and tanks are being used in Rama Street and Street 30 in Yarmouk camp. Sources close to the regime said that the regime forces targeted one of Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham’s sites on the Rama sector, and admitted killing two members of the Popular Front - General Command and the second from the Syrian army. The fighting continues until now.

Activists and eye witnesses told the Action Group large-scale destruction reached the residential buildings and lanes in Ain Ghazal, the building blocks in the west of Yarmouk camp, Magharba Street and other areas, as a result of the bombardments that hit the areas, with air raids and rockets.

The besieged Yarmouk camp, witnessed a violent wave of bombing by Syrian planes and the targeting of the neighborhoods in the camp, with rockets and mortars.

Our correspondent said that the Russian warplanes bombarded Al-Hajar Al-Aswad and Al-Tadamon extremely violently, and that the raids increased in late hours of the night, at the rate of two strikes every minute and a half.

He added that the regime targeted civilian neighborhoods, and the locations and stocks of ISIS, noting that one of the raids on Al-Hajar Al-Aswad led to the death and injuries of a number of ISIS’s members.

The warplanes also launched two attacks at night, on the Japanese Hospital located on the outskirts of Yarmouk camp, and bombarded the meeting lines with ISIS in the direction of Yelda, and behind the seam lines.

The regime also targeted Beit Sahm, one of the towns of south Damascus, with two rockets from the warplanes, without any reports on deaths or injuries among the civilians. Beit Sahm is one of the towns included in the reconciliation agreement signed with the regime.

On its part, ISIS bombarded the fighting axes with the Syrian regime forces and its affiliated factions, with rockets and mortar shells, in addition to the seam lines with Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham, causing damage to the residential buildings.

Our correspondent added that the hysterical bombardments carried out by the regime forces and the Palestinian factions affiliated to it, caused great destruction to the houses in Yarmouk camp and the targeted areas, forcing the civilians to hide in the basements and lower grounds of the houses, fearing the bombardments.

The regime forces had launched the day before yesterday, 19th of April, a large-scale military operation supported by the Palestinian factions and those affiliated to them, on Yarmouk camp, Al-Hajar Al-Aswad, Al-Assaly and Al-Tadamon in south Damascus, against ISIS, after negotiations to evacuate the members of ISIS from the camp to the Syrian Badia, failed.

Approximately 6200 Palestinian refugees are living in the besieged Yarmouk camp since 2011, in addition to the hundreds of displaced from other areas, who are unable to leave their houses, and are living in the basements and lower grounds, because of their fear of the shelling.

In the same context, the Action Group’s correspondent in south Damascus, reported the death and injury of a number of Palestinian fighters, within the military groups loyal to the Syrian regime in Yarmouk camp.
