The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria, the Center for Democratic Republic Studies and the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression, have prepared a joint informative report in English, on the latest crisis of Yarmouk camp, titled “Yarmouk Camp Set on Fire,” with the aim of introducing international organizations and the international community to the reality of the situation in Yarmouk camp.
The three organizations delivered the report to a number of international delegations gathered at the Brussels Conference in support of Syria, in addition to about forty diplomatic missions in the Human Rights Council, and over 600 British MPs, in cooperation with the Palestinian Return Center in London.
The 1500-page report aims to highlight the shelling, destruction and human suffering in t Yarmouk camp and the south of Damascus, as a result of the recent military campaign launched by the Syrian regime since 19th of April on the region, and seeks to form an international public opinion to pressure the Syrian regime to stop its military campaign against Yarmouk camp, and stop the bloodshed there and provide a safe corridor for civilians.
The report included a summary of the documentation work carried out over the past years and the bloody story of the Palestinian refugees during the Syrian crisis, noting that the story of Yarmouk camp is the intensification of the maturation of the Palestinian refugee experience in Syria with their reality and their relationship with their surroundings, outside the circumference of the traditional Palestinian politics and in a more advanced form, which made them refuse co-ordinating with the Syrian regime, making the regime categorize them in the ranks of the enemies, a decision which did not stop the regime from involving Yarmouk camp in the war, however its rejection during the years of the siege of any possibility of removing the camp from the conflict.
The latest military operation launched by the Syrian regime forces on 19/04/2018, caused massive, unprecedented destruction, which is estimated at 40-60% of the camp, and led to the death of at least 18 civilians so far.
