In Turkey, a number of Palestinian-Syrian refugees participated in the Al-Awda Festival organized by the Turkish Association for Solidarity with Palestine ‘FIDDAR,’ the Popular Conference for Palestinians Abroad and a solidarity campaign in Gaziantep, on Saturday the 5th of March, to mark the 70th anniversary of the Nakba and the Great March of Return, in solidarity with the prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.
The festival included speeches that emphasized adherence to Palestinian rights and the right to return, a theatrical performance by the ‘Diaspora’ band, which was inspired by the occasion and the Palestinian heritage, and a photo exhibition.
About eight thousand Palestinian-Syrian refugees are living in Turkey, and are distributed across different parts of the country; Istanbul, Reyhanlı, Klis, Gaziantep and Mersin. They are suffering from difficult living conditions, especially with UNRWA’s refusal to provide them with any assistance, arguing that Turkey is located outside its working premises.
