Nine irregular migrants died yesterday after a boat sank off the coast of Antalya in south Turkey. A statement by the Turkish Coast Guard said that it had recovered the bodies of nine migrants, including two men, a woman and six children, noting that the teams managed to cooperate with the fishermen in the area to save five others that were on the sunken boat. The search is ongoing for a person who is thought to be missing, since the wooden boat carried between 14-15 people.
Maritime rescue workers had warned yesterday of going to the Island of Castellis, at which the boat sank, due to bad weather and rising tides in the region.
