Residents of Yarmouk Camp for Palestinian refugees have voiced deep concern over the misappropriation of their property and belongings as part of a new organization chart to rehabilitate the camp and alter Damascus demographic character.
The plan comes in the aftermath of a fierce military campaign launched by the Syrian government forces on the camp and which wrought massive destruction on civilian homes and infrastructure. Heavy shelling and theft property attempts were reported all the way through the operation.
During a meeting held on Monday, July 2, Syria’s Council of Ministers green-lighted a bid to rehabilitate recaptured zones in Damascus. The cabinet tasked the Minister of Public Works and Housing with setting an organizational plan to rehabilitate Jober, Barzah, Qaboun, and Yarmouk Camp, taking into account the demographic and industrial idiosyncrasy of each area.
