200,000 refugees, mostly from Syria, are expected to benefit from a law green-lighted by the German State Council on Friday following a debate on a draft resolution put forth by the Bundestag on June 15. The law rules for regulating family reunification procedures for refugees holding subsidiary protection status. 60,000 persons are slated to join their families as part of the newly-adopted law.
The measures opted for by the State Council will come into force as of August 1. Around 1,000 persons per month will be allowed to reunite with their families. Wives, minor children, and fathers of minors who arrived in Germany unaccompanied by their relatives can apply to benefit from the reunification bill.
