“Under Torture Campaign” Spotlights Victims of Torture in Syrian Dungeons

Activists embarked on a so-called "#Under Torture Campaign" aiming to shed light on the detainees and victims of enforced disappearance in Syrian government lock-ups.

Activists said the campaign saw the day following the release of lists of detainees tortured to death in Syrian government jails.

The activists condemned the silence maintained by the international community as regards the crimes perpetrated against captives in Syrian jails.

Social media users who joined the campaign launched calls for prosecuting those involved in such crimes and for stepping up efforts to reveal the fates of the victims of enforced disappearance, particularly women and children.

AGPS documented the internment of 1,686 Palestinian refugees in Syrian prisons, among them 106 women and girls. 537 detainees were, meanwhile, killed under torture in those lock-ups.
