The Lebanese security forces released three Palestinian children—Alaa AlDeen Assaad, aged 15, Iyad Khaled, 16, and Ahmad Jalbout, 16—who were detained by the Lebanese army in Sidon on Wednesday over allegations of overstaying their visas.
The three children fled from Syria to Lebanon in 2012 with their families. They returned to Syria in 2017 to sit for basic education exams and went back to Lebanon after they received an official permission to that end.
Nearly 31,000 Palestinian refugees seeking shelter in Lebanon have been subjected to a precarious legal status as the Lebanese authorities continue to rebuff the appeals of refugees from Syria for visa renewal under the pretext that no official instructions have been given to that end.
