A number of Palestinian factions in Damascus have laid off dozens of Palestinian gunmen over the past few months.
The Free Palestine Movement, Fatah AlIntifada, and AlSa’eka group disarmed dozens of pro-government fighters and cut off their salaries. Only a handful of gunmen were left in Yarmouk Camp.
The Lay-off has come following a military operation launched on Yarmouk Camp and which led to the retreat of ISIS and AlNusra militias, along with armed opposition groups south of Damascus.
Speaking with AGPS, local sources attributed the measure to the de-escalation and funding shortfall in the area.
The move reportedly stirred the wrath of a number of kicked-out officers who have no other sources of income. Several injured fighters also said they have received no compensations over their military services.
A number of Palestinian factions namely the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine–General Command, Fatah AlIntifada, AlSaeka, the Free Palestine Movement, and AlNidhal AlShaabi have been fighting alongside the Syrian government forces in and around such refugee camps as Yarmouk, Khan Dannun, AlSayeda Zeinab, AlHusainiya, Jaramana, AlAyedeen, AlNeirab, and AlRaml.
Hundreds of Palestinian refugees were killed as they joined pro-government battles waged against opposition groups, ISIS militias, and AlNusra battalions.
