Residents of Daraa Camp for Palestinian refugees, south of Syria, have been grappling with a chronic water blackout, which has been ongoing from the time the opposition outfits seized the camp until the Syrian government forces regained control over it.
The residents have been forced to drink water spouting from contaminated artesian wells or purchasing tanks at prices of up to 900 Syrian Pounds.
The residents urged the Palestine Liberation Organization, UNRWA, and General Authority for Palestine Refugees to make serious steps in order to reconstruct infrastructure, rehabilitate water, power, and sanitation networks, and restore UNRWA’s health, educational, and relief facilities.
The Syrian government forces have tightened grip on Daraa residents, blocking their access to aid items and cutting drinking water for months. Civilian buildings and facilities also sustained heavy damage in the rampant shelling on the camp.
