Statistics released by AGPS on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, observed on November 29, kept record of 5,615 physical violations perpetrated against Palestinian refugees since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict.
As many as 3,903 Palestinian refugees were killed as a result of the deadly air strikes, bloody shootouts, harsh torture, the blockade, or onboard the Europe-bound “death boats.” 1,712 others have, meanwhile, been secretly held in Syrian dungeons, among them dozens of women and girls.
Palestinian refugees in Syria have also been subjected to inhumane treatment and harsh psycho-physical torture. Over 560 refugees have been pronounced dead as a result of torture in Syrian government dungeons.
Thousands of Palestinian refugees have also been forcibly deported to northern Syria, where they have been grappling with dire living conditions and taking refuge in poorly-equipped refugee tents.
At the same time, dozens of displaced families have been trapped in southern Damascus towns and scores of others have been denied access to their homes at the government-held Yarmouk Camp.
The situation of the Palestinians of Syria has gone worse after most of neighboring countries, including Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt, along with north African and European countries have opted for a closed-door immigration policy, blocking refugees’ smooth access into their territories.
AGPS continues to urge the Palestine Liberation Organization, UNRWA, the international community and the Syrian authorities to live up to their responsibilities and take urgent action so as to save Palestinians scattered inside and outside of the embattled Syrian territories and provide them with the physical, legal, and moral protection quite urgently needed at such a critical stage.
