Palestinian families who have been displaced from Yarmouk Camp continue to appeal to the Syrian authorities, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian factions, among other concerned bodies, to work on securing their safe access to their homes in Yarmouk.
Thousands of displaced civilians have gone homeless after they failed to secure a safe shelter in the southern Damascus towns of Yalda, Babila, and Beit Sahem.
Thousands of Palestinian refugees were forced out of Yarmouk Camp after the Syrian fighter jets struck the area on December 16, 2012. Dozens were killed and hundreds wounded in the onslaught. The situation went downhill after ISIS militias grabbed hold of the camp in April 2015.
After the Syrian government forces recaptured the camp, a number of families who returned to their homes were ordered to either pay rental fees (at least $55) or leave the area once and for all. As a result, dozens of families sought shelter in abandoned and ruined buildings.
6,000 displaced Palestinian families who headed for Qudsaya, in Rif Dimashq, in the hunt for a safe shelter, have also been subject to dire conditions due to the price hike, high unemployment rates, steep rental fees, and the decline in civilians’ purchasing power.
