Rights Group Calls for Urgent Action over Jailed Women, Children in Syria

A conference titled “Until the Last Child and Woman Are Released from Syrian Prisons” was held by Le Movement De La Conscience (Conscience Movement) in Istanbul.

Human rights activists and parliamentarians from about 55 countries were in attendance.

Speakers at the conference called on the Syrian authorities to immediately release all detained women and girls, urging the international community and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take serious action in order to pressurize the Syrian government to that end.

Movement De La Conscience said that 13,500 women have been arrested by Syrian government forces since the outburst of the conflict, 7,000 among whom are still held in custody and subjected to harsh psycho-physical torture.

AGPS kept record of the detention of more than 110 Palestinian women and girls in Syrian state lock-ups, where over 35 others have also been tortured to death.
