Concerns have heightened among Palestinian refugees in Syria as calls have been recently launched by the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA), affiliated with the Syrian government forces, for military conscription, as figures on PLA’s official website.
Batches of Palestinian youths have been forced into military conscription, forcing dozens to become internally displaced and dozens more to seek refuge in other countries.
Palestinian refugees in Syria have been reluctant to join pro-regime squads after it turned out that they have been involved in war crimes against civilians all the way through the Syrian warfare.
Other refugees expressed their unyielding commitment to neutrality and disarmament in the raging conflict, believing that the Israeli occupation is their sole enemy.
Hundreds of refugees have been kidnapped at government-run checkpoints and forced to carry out mandatory conscription. Dozens more were kidnapped from their homes and shelters to that very end.
Shortly after the outburst of the deadly warfare, the Syrian government forced Palestinian refugees aged 18 and above to join affiliated militias for periods of at least one year and a half.
Those who refuse conscription are subjected to crackdowns, abductions and even executions. As a result, thousands fled the tension-stricken country in the hunt for a safer shelter.
According to informed sources, a number of Palestinian youths have been summoned to questioning by government officers and subjected to psycho-physical torture to force confession.
The recruits also said they have been forced to carry out exhausting personal chores for government officers against their will and under threat of punishment. Even those who have had their security files worked out have been involved in forced labor.
