Krahenbuhl Warns of Simmering Pressure on UNRWA

On Sunday, Syria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Walid al-Muallem, received Pierre Krähenbühl, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the distinguished relations between Syria and UNRWA and the pressures exerted on the Agency in an attempt to destabilize its key role in support of the Palestinian people.

Muallem reaffirmed Syria’s pro-Palestine stance and support for Palestinians’ inalienable rights, along with his country’s rejection of all attempts to nullify UNRWA’s legitimate and vital role inside and outside of the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories.

For his part, the UNRWA Commissioner-General expressed gratitude to the Syrian government for its continued support to the UN refugee agency, stressing UNRWA’s commitment to prop up bilateral ties with the Syrian government.
