Members of Liwaa AlQuds squad, affiliated with the Syrian government, and the Palestinian Red Crescent have embarked on the rehabilitation of the local park in Handarat Camp for Palestinian refugees, in Aleppo, which sustained heavy damage in the bloody conflict rocking the Syrian territories.
Activists condemned the move, saying serious measures should have been taken to reconstruct infrastructure and civilian buildings and urging the Syrian government and UNRWA to work on rehabilitating power/water networks along with vital services, including education and health care.
Heavy shelling on Handarat and bloody shootouts between the government forces and the opposition outfits led to the destruction of over 90% of buildings in the camp. The confrontations culminated in the government’s takeover of the camp along with other areas in Aleppo and the displacement of its residents on April 27, 2013.
