Palestinian Refugee Mootaz Jamal Released from German Prison

The German authorities freed the Palestinian refugee Mootaz Jamal from jail, where he had been kept for nearly three years over charges of human trafficking and migrant smuggling onboard inflatable boats bound for Europe.

Human smuggling is considered a serious crime by the German law. Paragraphs 96 and 97 of the Residence Act state that smugglers be sent to jail. Human traffickers who cause the death of a person might face a prison-term of up to 15 years.
