Over 30 Migrants Sustain Food-Borne Infections on Greek Island

More than 30 cases of food poisoning have been spotted among migrants taking refuge on the Greek island of Leros, according to activists.

The affected migrants, mostly children, were taken by ambulances to a local hospital for treatment.

The activists attributed the health crisis to rotten meals “unfit for human consumption” which were handed over to the migrants.

Some 150 Palestinians from Syria are taking refuge in substandard facilities set up in Leros Island, where they have been subjected to an exacerbated humanitarian situation due to the absence of vital services, including health care, housing, relief assistance, and power and water.
