Daraa is among the first areas to have its results announced.

Action Group – Syria

The Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, in cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), has begun issuing damage assessment reports for Syrian governorates affected by years of war. This initiative aims to establish an official database detailing the extent of the destruction and development needs across various regions.

The Ministry explained that the plan encompasses all governorates, utilizing specialized technical committees that conduct field surveys covering vital sectors and infrastructure, INCLUDING housing, education, health, and service and religious facilities. Detailed reports for each governorate will be issued sequentially upon completion, and will include strategic visions for rehabilitation and development.

*Daraa: More than 95,000 homes damaged*

In this context, the Ministry announced the completion of its report on Daraa Governorate, which revealed that more than 95,000 homes and housing units were damaged, including 33,400 homes completely destroyed, in addition to more than 60,000 homes damaged to varying degrees. The report also documented varying degrees of damage to more than 55 bakeries and ovens in the governorate.

According to the Ministry, these reports serve as an official reference that local authorities and international organizations can useto guide their relief and development interventions. They also constitute a tool for measuring progress in future reconstruction projects.

The Ministry began conducting preliminary surveys in January 2025 in several areas that suffered extensive destruction, using specialized teams in statistics and data collection, with the aim of establishing an accurate database to support reconstruction planning.

*Repercussions for Palestinian refugees in Daraa*

The report’s findings are particularly significant in Daraa Governorate, which is home to thousands of Palestinian refugees scattered throughout its cities and towns, in addition to Daraa Camp, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in the governorate, with an estimated 15,000 residents.

Observers believe that assessing the extent of damage to residential and service infrastructure is a crucial step in evaluating the actual needs of Palestinian refugees residing in the governorate, especially given the damage to housing, bakeries, and basic services, and the resulting daily challenges.

Action group is monitoring developments related to the assessment process, recognizing the importance of obtaining detailed data on the conditions of Palestinian camps and communities, and the extent to which they will be included in anticipated recovery and reconstruction plans.

Action Group – Syria The Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, in cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), has begun issuing damage assessment reports for Syrian governorates affected by years of war.
