The head of the National Commission for Transitional Justice, Abdulbaset Abdullatif, met with UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres to discuss ways to enhance UN support for transitional justice processes in Syria, focusing on truth-seeking, accountability, and the issue of missing persons.<\/p>\n
The meeting took place at Tishreen Palace in Damascus, and was attended by National Commission for Transitional Justice member Yasmine Mishaan, head of the National Commission for Missing Persons Mohammad Reza Jalakhi, and head of the High Elections Committee Mohammad Taha Al-Ahmad.<\/p>\n
During the meeting, Abdullatif reviewed the most significant achievements within the transitional justice framework, including truth-seeking, accountability, reparations, and preserving national memory, as well as efforts to promote national reconciliation.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the transitional justice process in Syria is based on national leadership, while leveraging supportive international partnerships that respect national ownership of the process. He also stressed the importance of continued UN support in areas such as national capacity building, strengthening the protection of victims and families of missing persons, and transferring technical expertise.<\/p>\n
He added that this cooperation would contribute to strengthening the rule of law, supporting justice institutions, and enhancing trust in public institutions, thus serving the efforts to achieve justice and sustainable peace in Syria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
