Lebanon: UNRWA opens Siblin center to shelter displaced Palestinians

Sidon – Action Group

Sidon – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced the opening of the Siblin Vocational Training Center in its southern campus to shelter displaced Palestinian refugees from southern Lebanon.

In a statement issued Wednesday, UNRWA confirmed that its teams are permanently stationed at the center to provide necessary support to the displaced, including guidance, temporary shelter, and basic services. This initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of affected families and provide them with safe haven during their displacement.

This decision comes amidst increasing internal displacement of Palestinians in Lebanon due to the dire economic situation and the repercussions of local and regional conflicts, which have impacted families’ ability to secure temporary housing.

UNRWA issued a statement several days ago announcing that it had activated emergency preparedness measures in response to ongoing developments and the deteriorating security situation in the country, emphasizing its continued communication with partners to mobilize support for displaced Palestinian refugees.

The agency explained that it is working to equip two centers dedicated to sheltering the displaced: the Siblin Training Center (South Campus) to receive those displaced from Beirut and South Lebanon, and the Jarmak School to receive those displaced from the Bekaa Valley.
