Lebanon: UNRWA launches survey to monitor residency difficulties faced by Palestinian students from Syria

Lebanon – Action Group

UNRWA has called on Palestinian refugee students from Syria residing in Lebanon and enrolled in non-UNRWA vocational training centers to complete a special form documenting the difficulties they face in continuing their studies or taking official exams for the 2025-2026 academic year due to residency issues. The form must be completed by May 10, 2026.
The agency explained that it will follow up on these cases with the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education to find appropriate solutions that ensure the students’ right to education continues and that their studies are not affected by legal procedures related to residency.
UNRWA clarified that students registered at its Siblin Vocational Training Centre (South and North campuses) for the same academic year are exempt from this requirement, as their data is already available and they are not required to complete the form.
This measure comes amidst ongoing challenges faced by a number of Palestinian refugee students from Syria in Lebanon, particularly regarding obtaining official documents or pursuing educational procedures. Local sources have reported instances of students encountering difficulties in receiving university degrees or completing paperwork due to administrative complexities related to residency, with no clear solutions to these problems thus far.
