The discovery of an unexploded shell inside the Palestinian charity building in Yarmouk camp has once again highlighted the ongoing dangers posed by war remnants, which continue to threaten the safety of residents, despite the years that have passed since the end of military operations in the area.
The local emergency committee reported receiving a notification about the presence of an unexploded shell on the upper floors of the building. This prompted coordination with the Internal Security Forces, who quickly secured the site and evacuated the building. Engineering and explosives teams then removed the shell and transported it to a safe location for dismantling.
According to the committee, the operation concluded without any civilian casualties or material damage. The committee urged camp residents to refrain from approaching or attempting to move any suspicious objects and to report them immediately to the relevant authorities. It also affirmed its continued coordination with relevant agencies to address the issue of war remnants and enhance safety measures.
This incident highlights the continuing challenges associated with war remnants within Yarmouk camp, where unexploded ordnance still poses a danger to civilians, underscoring the need to continue surveying and removal operations to ensure a safer environment for residents as they continue to return to the camp.
