Calls for peaceful sit-ins in Palestinian camps to protest the decline in UNRWA services

Syria – Action Group

The Action Group monitored a statement issued by an activist group identifying itself as the “Palestinian Activists Gathering in Syria,” announcing its intention to organize peaceful protests and sit-ins in several Palestinian camps and communities within Syria. The protests aim to demand improved services and accountability for those responsible for corruption related to aid distribution.
According to the statement, dated March 21, 2026, these actions come amidst escalating complaints from Palestinian refugees about the decline in basic services and the exclusion of several families from financial, food, and medical assistance. The statement also cited a lack of transparency in the distribution mechanisms.
The statement indicated that the planned demonstrations would encompass several camps and communities, including al-Sabina, al-Husayniya, Yarmouk, Jaramana, Khan al-Shih, Dannoun, and Sayyida Zeinab, as well as communities in Homs, Hama, and Latakia, and the Handarat and al-Nairab camps, and Daraa.
The organizers demanded a number of measures, most notably the resumption of regular financial and food aid distribution, improved medical services, and guarantees of equitable aid distribution, along with the publication of clear distribution mechanisms and investigations into any potential abuses.
The statement also held the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in Syria responsible for what it described as the deteriorating level of services, calling for an urgent response to the refugees’ demands.
While UNRWA has not yet issued an official comment on the statement, the organizers affirmed that the demonstrations would continue peacefully, emphasizing the refugees’ commitment to their rights and the necessity of improving their living conditions.
