Damascus – Action Group
A delegation from the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria visited the headquarters of the Palestinian Arab Refugee Authority in Damascus on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. They met with Abdullah Qandil, Director of the Yarmouk Department, to discuss the current state of services provided to Palestinian refugees in Syria and ways to improve them, with a focus on the needs of Yarmouk Camp.
The delegation included the Group’s Director General, Fayez Abu Eid, the Director of the Damascus office, Tawfiq Hujair, and the head of the correspondents’ team, Zahir Saleh. The meeting addressed the humanitarian and service conditions in the Palestinian camps and the challenges facing residents, particularly in Yarmouk Camp, which continues to suffer from the effects of years of war and destruction.
During the meeting, Abdullah Qandil, Director of the Yarmouk Department, reviewed the most prominent work and efforts undertaken by the department to serve Palestinian refugees in the camps and Palestinian communities in Syria, noting the ongoing work to improve services and develop delivery mechanisms to meet the needs of the residents.
Qandil revealed a number of plans that the department intends to implement during the next phase, including moving the Yarmouk Department headquarters to a new location, and receiving and equipping the properties belonging to the Refugee Authority inside the camp, which will contribute to facilitating administrative and service transactions, especially those related to issuing travel documents and identity cards.
He also noted that the Palestinian issue in Syria faces accumulated challenges and obstacles that will require time to address, expressing his optimism that the coming months will witness positive steps that will improve the situation of Palestinian refugees and the services provided to them.
The meeting also addressed future service projects, most notably the establishment of a health center to meet the needs of the residents of Yarmouk camp, in addition to other initiatives aimed at strengthening the service infrastructure and supporting recovery and reconstruction efforts.
For his part, the Director General of the Action Group, Fayez Abu Eid, affirmed that the visit comes within the framework of the Group’s ongoing monitoring of the situation of Palestinian refugees in Syria and its efforts to strengthen communication with relevant parties concerned with Palestinian affairs. He stated, “Improving basic services and removing obstacles facing camp residents is a pressing priority, and coordination with official institutions contributes to supporting efforts aimed at responding to the needs of refugees, especially in Yarmouk camp, which is going through a phase that requires the concerted efforts of all parties.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to serve Palestinian refugees, help develop administrative and humanitarian services, and create suitable conditions for enhancing stability and improving living conditions in the camps.
