Homs – Action Group
Given the continued scarcity of health and rehabilitation services within Palestinian refugee camps in Syria, an initiative was organized in the Al-A’ideen camp in Homs to provide free assessments and consultations for children with behavioral and developmental disorders. This initiative aimed to address the needs of families who lack access to specialized rehabilitation services.
The “Ulfa Medical Point” initiative was implemented in cooperation with the “Siraj” volunteer team, under the supervision of Dunia Abu Arabi, a specialist in behavior and speech modification and a sign language trainer. The services included individual assessments for children, consultations for parents, and the provision of practical guidance and plans for home-based follow-up.
The service targeted children with speech and language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, and other conditions, including Down syndrome, due to the absence or limited availability of specialized centers offering diagnostic and rehabilitation services within the camp.
This initiative reflects the growing needs of children with disabilities and developmental disorders in Palestinian refugee camps, where many families face difficulties accessing specialized rehabilitation and care services, whether due to a lack of centers or the high cost of treatment, thus exacerbating their social and economic burdens.
This event is part of a series of activities implemented by the Siraj volunteer team in the Al-A’ideen camp, which have previously included service and environmental initiatives, such as contributing to securing a generator to power the main water well, all aimed at improving the living conditions of the camp’s residents.
