The action group participates in the “Syria and Palestine” workshop

Damascus – Action Group

The “Action Group,” represented by its director, Fayez Abu Eid, is participating in a workshop entitled “Syria and Palestine: From Shared History to the Questions of the New State,” organized by the Arab Center for Contemporary Syrian Studies on June 13 and 14 at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus. The workshop aims to reframe the discussion on the Syrian-Palestinian relationship within a scholarly framework, based on a critical reading of the past, an analysis of the transformations that followed 2011, and an exploration of possible options during the transitional phase. The workshop addresses three interconnected levels: the historical and structural, state policies, and the social and cultural, with a particular focus on questions of the future, such as the place of Palestine in Syria’s transitional policy, reconciling historical obligations with the requirements of national interest, realistic options regarding the Syria-Israel issue, and restructuring the legal framework for the Palestinian presence in a manner consistent with the rule of law and non-discrimination. The organizers emphasized that the workshop does not seek to provide ready-made answers, but rather to open a disciplined scholarly discussion that contributes to a clearer understanding of the issue. They called for rigorous and methodologically sound analytical papers that can be transformed into policy recommendations.
