The Attorney General of the Syrian Arab Republic, Hassan al-Turba, announced new information regarding the ongoing investigations into violations committed against detainees during the years of the revolution. He indicated that Tishreen Military Hospital was performing roles that exceeded its medical duties and, according to preliminary findings, had become a site linked to cases of detention and violations against detainees.

In a statement to the Syrian News Channel, al-Turba explained that the investigations uncovered information about an incident in which former state officials are suspected of involvement. This incident concerns the removal of a human organ from a detainee inside the hospital, based on statements and testimonies provided by former employees who later defected from the institutions of the former regime.

He clarified that the victim’s identity has not yet been determined, while the relevant authorities continue their investigations and evidence gathering related to the case. He affirmed that the file will be referred to the competent judiciary as soon as the necessary legal procedures are completed.

The Attorney General added that the authorities have not yet documented other similar cases of organ theft, but that the search and investigation are ongoing within the broader investigations into violations committed against detainees.

These statements come in the context of efforts to uncover the fate of the victims and document the violations that took place in detention centers and related institutions during the past decades, within the framework of transitional justice, which the Syrian authorities say aims to achieve accountability, uncover the truth, and do justice to the victims and their families.
