In a first-of-its-kind move since 2011, Safwan Abu Jweid, Regional Director of the Education Program at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), conducted an inspection visit to UNRWA schools in the areas of Al-Muzeireeb and Jillin in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.

During the visit, Mr. Abu Jweid held extensive meetings with school principals and teachers, listening to detailed briefings on the educational process and the challenges faced by teaching staff and students. Discussions also addressed the technical and material needs required to improve the quality of education and provide a better school environment for students.

Reflecting UNRWA’s commitment to youth, the Regional Education Director also listened directly to students’ opinions and needs, emphasizing the importance of these insights in the agency’s efforts to enhance their learning environment and make it more engaging and effective.

At the conclusion of this significant visit, Mr. Safwan Abu Jweid affirmed that this historic visit would not be the last but rather the beginning of a series of future visits by UNRWA education staff to the governorate’s schools.

He stressed the agency’s commitment to providing all necessary support to ensure that Palestinian students receive a high-quality, inclusive, and equitable education that empowers them to build a better future for themselves and their community.
