Aleppo – Action Group
The al-Nayrab Palestinian refugee camp in Aleppo is experiencing a worsening humanitarian crisis due to a complete cutoff of drinking water for the third consecutive day.
This has raised concerns among residents about potentially dire health and living conditions if the crisis continues.
Camp residents reported that the cessation of water pumping through the main network has depleted household water tanks, forcing many families to seek alternative water sources or resort to purchasing water delivered by tankers at exorbitant prices, given the difficult economic circumstances faced by most families.
According to testimonies from inside the camp, the crisis has placed an additional burden on the most vulnerable groups, including female-headed households, families with orphans, the elderly, and people with disabilities, who are facing even greater difficulties in securing their daily water needs.
Residents fear that the continued water cuts will worsen the already dire health and environmental conditions within the camp, especially given the daily need for water for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene, and the potential risks associated with the spread of disease.
Al-Nairab camp, located east of Aleppo, is one of the largest Palestinian refugee camps in northern Syria, housing thousands of refugees who have suffered for years from the decline in basic services and deteriorating living conditions as a result of the successive crises that have plagued the country.
Camp residents are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene urgently to address the causes of the water cuts and restore the water supply to the main network, thus ensuring the provision of this essential service and alleviating their suffering.
