Damascus – Action Group
A former employee of what was formerly known as the National Defense Forces militia revealed new information suggesting the possible existence of another mass grave in the Tadamon neighborhood of southern Damascus. This grave is believed to contain the remains of dozens of civilians killed during the years of the Syrian revolution.
According to testimony published by Zaman al-Wasl newspaper, the grave is located on Daaboul Street, near the town of Babila. The witness stated that the bodies were dumped inside buildings under construction in the area. The newspaper indicated that it withheld the identity of the group’s leader to protect the witness’s safety.
According to the testimony, the majority of the victims were from Yarmouk Camp and surrounding areas, providing further evidence of the scale of violations suffered by civilians in the southern part of the capital during that period.
This information comes at a time when efforts continue to uncover the fate of thousands of missing and forcibly disappeared persons in Syria, amid human rights demands to continue searching for mass graves, identifying victims, and holding those responsible for violations accountable.
The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria points out that the massacre in the Tadamon neighborhood, revealed through journalistic investigations and video footage dating back to April 2013, targeted Palestinian and Syrian civilians from the Tadamon neighborhood, Yarmouk camp, and surrounding areas, resulting in the summary execution of dozens of victims in one of the most prominent massacres the region has witnessed.
Neighborhoods in southern Damascus, particularly Tadamon and Yarmouk camp, have witnessed widespread killings and enforced disappearances during the years of the Syrian revolution, and the fate of a large number of victims remains unknown, while their families continue to demand for the truth and justice.
