Action group in Sabina camp: Services and the missing persons file on the table for discussion

Damascus – Action Group

A delegation from the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria met on Wednesday with activists and local figures in the Sbeineh camp, south of the Syrian capital, Damascus, to discuss the humanitarian and service conditions in the camp, as well as the challenges facing its residents and the issue of missing and forcibly disappeared persons.

The delegation included the group’s Director General, Fayez Abu Eid, the Damascus office director, Tawfiq Hajir, and the head of the correspondents’ team, Zaher Saleh. Participants discussed the situation in the camp, the most pressing service needs, and efforts to improve the level of services provided to residents. They also addressed the issue of missing and forcibly disappeared persons and the mechanisms for following up on it.

The meeting also addressed ways to support the transitional justice process, ensuring the disclosure of the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared, preserving the rights of victims and their families, and holding those responsible for violations accountable, within the framework of efforts to achieve justice and reparations.

During the meeting, activists presented several initiatives aimed at improving service delivery and proposed ways to enhance coordination with relevant bodies, including the Refugee Authority and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The formation of a small committee to follow up on service-related issues and work to address existing challenges was also discussed.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination to improve administrative and humanitarian services and living conditions for camp residents. They also stressed the need to continue efforts to uncover the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared, and to provide justice for victims and their families.

This meeting is part of the working group’s efforts to monitor the situation of Palestinian refugees in Syria, track developments in Palestinian camps and communities, and liaise with relevant parties to address humanitarian, service-related, and human rights issues.
